What the DPF pressure sensor measures
The system compares exhaust pressure across the filter using one or more hoses. The control unit uses the signal, together with other information, to estimate restriction and decide whether regeneration conditions are suitable.
A sensor value is not useful in isolation. It must behave logically with the engine stopped, at idle and as exhaust flow increases.
Symptoms that can accompany a pressure fault

The technician can compare live pressure at defined conditions, inspect the hoses and connections and use suitable reference checks for the vehicle. The result should agree with the observed filter condition and related fault evidence.
